ABOUT US
Veteran Horse Welfare is a registered charity that is dedicated to the welfare of older horses and ponies. Launched in March 2004 by the Veteran Horse Society, the VHW was set up to provide advice and support to welfare concerns, provide rehabilitation and care for mismanaged and rescued veterans. The Veteran Horse Society was launched in 2001 by Julianne Aston and was the first registered society within UK and Europe, solely dedicated to the older horse and pony.

Our aims
The VHW is committed to preventing the neglect of older horses and ponies, throughout
Europe and the United Kingdom . The VHW aims to educate owners, potential owners
and carers of veteran horses on every aspect of veteran welfare.
Veteran Horse Welfare funds and runs a Rehabilitation Centre in Pembrokeshire
which is currently home to over 20 Veteran horses and ponies. Whilst some of
these Veterans will be able to be re-homed once they have completed their rehabilitation,
others may never be strong enough or are simply unable to cope with the change
to new homes. These Veterans will remain at the Centre for the rest of their
lives. Here, they are simply loved and cared for. In turn the Veterans have
touched the lives of all the humans who have had the pleasure of caring for
them.
The aim of the charity is to assist in educating owners and carers of Veteran
equines, and have been working to produce documents and information to prevent
the mismanagement and cruelty of older horses and ponies throughout Europe and
the United Kingdom . Please visit the Welfare pages for advice.
Please drop by and Meet the Horses page of our sister organisation Veteran Horse
Society where you can read about each individual horse or pony at the rehabilitation
centre.
If you would like to ask Julianne any feed or welfare questions please contact
her on info@veteran-horse-welfare.co.uk

Due to popular demand, the Adoption Scheme now allows you to support your favourite
Veteran and his best friend in their lifelong home together at the Centre. Many
of the Veterans at the Centre have very strong pair bonds and following the
popularity of the scheme, the Veterans are being offered for adoption in their
pairs. This allows you not only to support and find out about your chosen Veteran,
but also his best friend who plays such a huge role in your Veteran’s
new life at the Centre.
Our promise to you
Your donation is not swallowed up in administration costs, the fundraising department
is carried out voluntarily and so your donation goes only towards making the
horses happier and more comfortable all year round. This is our promise to you
to handle our fundraising and your donations with the utmost responsibility.
Thank you for visiting this site and we hope you will now understand why we
are so very grateful for every penny we receive at the centre and by including
us in your will, you make a huge difference to all the horses here at the centre.
